Bad idea reaching for gun like object

This footage comes from San Diego California, where officers were attempting to interdict a stolen vehicle. Despite spike strips taking out his front two tires, the suspect led SDPD officers on a chase before striking a light pole. When the suspect exited the vehicle, what appeared to be a handgun fell out. Although initially compliant, the suspect reached for the object and was shot by one of the responding officers. The suspect survived thanks to care provided on-scene and rapid transport, and the item he reached for was revealed to be a revolver-shaped lighter. Viewer discretion is advised. Edwaun Thames, 39 years of age, was charged with Felony Evading in a Motor Vehicle, Possession of a Stolen Vehicle and Vehicle Theft. One of the responding officers was injured by glass from the light pole, but all parties- including Thames- are expected to make full recoveries.
