Attempted vehicular homicide gets driver shot
This footage from El Centro, California, shows local police attempting to interdict persons suspected of having stolen a car. However, when the suspects accelerate toward the officers in an aggressive manner, an officer shoots the driver, killing him. Because the driver and suspect was a minor, viewer discretion is advised. A license plate scanner alerted local authorities of plates belonging to a stolen white Hyundai, and police tracked it to a restaurant. When the the officers attempted to move in, the suspects fled. In a bid to escape with the vehicle, the driver aggressively accelerated toward the officers before being shot and killed. When the police officer opened fire, there were two officers directly in front of the Hyundai. Although aid was rendered on-scene by both police and local EMS, the driver was declared deceased. Two other minors, deemed uninvolved with the crime, were in the backseat of the car at the time.
