Another Russian attempts T-Rex drone defense
Another reconnaissance drone video coming out of Ukraine today shows another Russian infantryman conducting the immediate action drill for defense against a T-Rex in "Jurassic Park." It's unclear why the Russians have adopted this particular standard operating procedure when drones are overhead, but as of right now, it doesn't appear to be a particularly effective system of defense. I believe the intent is something similar to the "freeze" command given on patrol while in a jungle environment. Human beings are naturally predators, and our eyes are drawn to movement. The freeze command demands that every person in the patrol immediately freezes in place and halts all movement, ideally preventing an enemy from having their eyes drawn to the patrol if the enemy is spotted at a considerable distance from the unit. The thing is, the follow-on action for that is to "melt," in which the entire patrol slowly maneuvers to the prone position for further concealment, and the entire action only works in wooded or jungle terrain where vegetation is already mixed with camouflage, providing natural concealment from enemy observation. In the case of being spotted by a drone in an open field, this is an entirely worthless standard operating procedure.
