Florida woman versus MRAP

This compilation of footage from Pinellas Co. Florida has given me the opportunity to write one of the wildest juxtapositions of English words imaginable. An armed Florida woman claiming to be a CIA asset led Pinellas Deputies on a car chase that culminated in an MRAP PIT maneuver and a hail of gunfire.

The officers are responding to reports that Darpino had ingested a potentially harmful amount of Xanax after having been released from custody the previous day. Darpino is shown wielding two swords and threatening the officers before descending the stairs to close the distance. Thereby, he makes one of the classic strategic blunders- giving up the high ground.

When the police surround the vehicle, the suspects ignore commands to get out of the car, and instead strike two police cruisers and aim toward an officer before escaping. These actions escalate the incident to the use of deadly force, whereby the police fire several rounds into the SUV as the suspects flee.

First responders and Good Samaritans save driver

This bodycam footage shows Arizona citizens in Chandler working to rescue a woman trapped in a burning vehicle. From the perspective of Chandler Police Officer Brian Larison (who also narrates), we see people trying to open the car's door. Larison then smashes the window out with his baton. Incredibly, an un-named Peoria fireman on his way to work happens upon the scene, and rushes to their aid with his fire-retardant bunker gear. They pull the driver out the window to safety. There's a long-standing, good natured inter-service rivalry between police and firemen, but these two don't hesitate when lives are on the line. I don't know about you, but it does my heart good to see First Responders living up to the title and making sure everyone goes home. The regular citizens on-scene deserve recognition, too, as they were facing the same problem and its dangers with no tools or protection. Clearly, they don't mind the heat down in Arizona.

Drug dealer fails to outrun Taser

Provided by the Police Department of Wyandotte, Michigan, this footage shows a fleeing suspect who gets absolutely shut down by a Taser. Although the phrase is commonly used, a fact drilled into every cop from the Academy onwards is that there is no such thing as a "routine traffic stop." The officer shown here gets reminded of that when the subject of his stop takes off, being in possession of crack, heroin, and meth. After a short vehicle chase, the pursuit devolves into a foot chase, at which point the officer deploys his Taser. The suspect, who has a criminal history going back 20 years, turns into a plank mid-air and eats concrete.

Bystander records officer-involved shooting in Nebraska

This quick clip shows the moment a "routine traffic stop" goes bad in Arlington, Nebraska. Reports from the scene suggest that the driver of the SUV to the right of frame was arrested for her traffic violation, whereupon it was discovered that the male passenger had a warrant for his arrest. He was called out of the vehicle in a standard takedown procedure, but things went off the rails when he pulled a handgun from his waistband and opened fire as shown. He managed to take three police cruisers out of service but failed to hit any of the officers. Wounded by the police's return fire, he was flown via helicopter to an Omaha hospital for emergency surgery. It would appear that both the suspect and the nosy neighbor cameraman got a little more than they bargained for out of this incident.

Indiana cop gets shot with .45, stays in the fight

This compilation of bodycam footage from Fort Wayne, Indiana, shows the perspective of two officers responding to a burglary in progress. Officer Minardo moved to the back of the home, whereupon he encountered the suspect exiting via window. Upon noticing Minardo, the suspect opened fire with a .45 caliber Glock handgun, which had been modified via switch to fire automatically. Although Minardo was hit in the arm, he returned fire. Despite his injury, he spotted another suspect and gave chase before receiving medical aid. In the second bodycam feed, we see another officer, Schroeder, fire on the armed suspect. The suspect, 20-year-old Zar Myint, initially escaped but was apprehended a few hours later and taken to an area hospital. Myint pled guilty to attempted murder, receiving a sentence of 30 years. Minardo continues to recover.

Suspect flees on lawnmower, gets tased, shoots self

This bodycam footage from Jackson, Michigan shows a Sheriff's Deputy attempting to detain and arrest 41-year-old James Kerr for violation of probation. In the act of documenting the incident, this footage also captures compounding bad decisions on the part of the suspect. First, he attempts to ignore and flee the Deputy on his lawnmower. However, when this proves to be as effective as it sounds, Kerr dismounts and reaches for a handgun. This prompts the Deputy to fire his TASER- which he had presumably intended to use to end the mower chase. That would have been embarrassing enough for Kerr, but the muscle contractions associated with a TASER's Neuro-Muscular Incapacitation (NMI) cause Kerr to shoot himself in the hand.
